Important Stuff: Forms & Policies
Lunches
Reminders of this policy will be sent out as necessary in the child’s lunch kit.
The following policy represents an understanding of section 48 in the Child Care Licensing
Regulation found here:

Children are to have balanced and nutritious food in a labeled lunch bag which is placed
into the fridge upon arrival. The bag should contain a healthy morning snack, a main afternoon
lunch, and an after lunch snack which may be sweet if desired (no candy please). Guardians will
be asked to please reference the following link:

epare/lunches-go
Children choose how much and if they wish to eat presented food. Food is not used as a reward
or punishment. Children are never forced to eat and always supervised while eating. First snack
is at 9, lunch is at noon, and afternoon snack is at 3pm.
The children younger than 36 months are served their items individually while the older
children may open their kits themselves and are encouraged to eat a healthy item for morning
snack, their main entree for lunch, and a treat or second snack for afternoon. If the children are
unable to choose their snacks we will ask that parents label morning, lunch, and afternoon
containers and the child will receive the food in this order. The purpose is twofold- to ensure
perishables are eaten and to facilitate the consumption of nutritional food.
Water bottles should also be sent daily. If emptied, the water will be filled from municipal
water on site. The municipal water is treated and has been tested for heavy metals. Please do not send juice, pop, or chocolate milk.
If a child’s lunch bag contains candy or sweet drinks the item will be removed. The child will be
advised that it is to be kept for pick up time and the guardian will receive it back. If inappropriate
items continue to be sent, a meeting between myself (the licensee, owner, and sole staff
member) and the parents will be organized to review the policies.
Noke Childcare will have items such as cheese, yogurt, fruit and squeeze pouches on hand
should a child have minimal lunch or one that is not nutritious enough as per the Canada Food
Guide. If a snack from Noke Childcare was provided the parent will be notified by receipt of a
note in the child's lunch bag and verbally at pick up if a private conversation is possible. If a
child comes without or minimal items three times Noke Childcare will re-evaluate their policies
and potentially meet with parents about a change in the policy.
Advise Noke Childcare of any dietary needs and/or restrictions. Allergies and dietary
restrictions are taken into account, and are posted in the kitchen on the fridge. All parents will be
advised in advance if there is a child on site with an anaphylactic allergy.
There is a microwave for warming food, however, if the food is meant to be warmed
please have it in a glass container separate from foods meant to be kept cold.
